Wild Heart Collective Volunteer Call

_MG_1096.jpg

Wild Heart Collective is in search of positive, fun, and active people to volunteer at the 124 Grand Market!  This is one of the top public markets in the Edmonton area, which runs on Thursdays, and Sundays on 124 Street. We host 50 vendors and 1500 patrons each market and we need volunteers who want to be part of this vibrant and exciting community.

As a volunteer, you’ll keep our market lively and accessible and assist in educating kids about food security, all while earning 124 Grand Market swag and coupons (known as “Market Bucks”) to use at any vendor table.

Market volunteers are also first in line to volunteer at special events with some of the best possible perks (think world-class food and great local food producer experiences).

Volunteer tasks may include:

  • Operating Debit/Credit machines for the Market Bucks program

  • Distributing tokens and engaging kids aged 4-12 in the Little Beans program

  • Assisting onsite at some of our wicked fun special events (Eats on 118, Grand Taste Tour, special beer garden markets)

  • Working with our dream team of vendors in making every market magic!

Volunteers receive great perks like:

  • T-shirts!

  • Tote bags!

  • Awesome vendor goodies!

  • Market bucks, market bucks, and more market bucks!

Market shifts are flexible. Work three markets or thirty! The more shifts you take, the more you get back - and the more fun you’ll have with us!

Edmonton food incubator two years in the making receives good news with municipal and provincial funding

For Immediate Release, March 4, 2019

The Public - Alberta’s Food Incubation Hub, received good news that grant funding from both the City of Edmonton and the Province has been confirmed today.

Edmonton City Council voted to approve $600,000.00 for a facility in Central Mcdougall to cultivate local food entrepreneurs. It was a unanimous vote from the Executive Council. This amount will complement the $231,500 recently confirmed from the Government of Alberta.

The total $3,000,000 dollar project will support businesses by providing a production focused hub that will house provincially and federally inspected commercial kitchen spaces, industry-specific technical assistance and access to market opportunities to create real and lasting economic change for the Edmonton food industry. It will give Edmonton’s local food economy the boost it needs to get locally made food products with regional ingredients, on the plates of all Albertans and Canadians.

This funding stream will unlock other opportunities and allow for Phase 1 of construction to start as early as Spring 2019.

Once all phases are complete, the building will offer a total of 13 commercial grade kitchens, specialty equipment, a packaging and labeling area, storage, distribution, business support, co-working spaces, and research and development for all products incubated, as well as a consumer facing retail, cafe, grocery and event space.

For full details, please feel free to review the The Public Business Case available at the City of Edmonton. The Public and its affiliates would like to thank everyone for their support and to Council and the Government of Alberta for helping us to take the first step in this necessary facility for the food community.

The Public, which has been 24 months in the making, is a new collaborative venture by Wild Heart Collective, Makespace Group and Wild Heart Society for Vibrant Communities.
